Halloween, Thanksgiving, Christmas, Sunday brunch… A calorie splurge can strike at any time for any reason or no reason at all. Hey, stuffing happens.
Once you succumb to a calorie splurge, I have three rules: Eat, Drink and Be Merry.
Stick with me, I promise this will make sense in a second.
Many of us have a tendency to skip meals following a food binge. That actually works against us. Instead of skipping lunch because you know you have a big dinner party coming, stick with your normal healthy food choices. If you don’t come to the table ravenous, you might make better choices than you think.
If you like to skip meals after a food binge, just know that you might be setting yourself up for another unplanned binge. If you’re super full, it may be the best time to meal prep a healthy meal for later without temptation.
The more healthy meals you eat the less “room” you’ll have for overdoing it
Drinking water before a meal will definitely help keep your eyes from getting bigger than your stomach. And even though a glass of water might be the last thing on your mind as you unbutton your pants, water, seltzer, or teas help with digestion way more than coffee or wine.
I know you probably want to just lay on the couch, but joyful movement is a great way to bounce back after a big meal. Grab your aunt or daughter or best friend and dance around the living room, take a walk or sing carols at the top of your lungs. Fight the urge to lay on the couch after a big meal– you’ll thank yourself!
