Ah… the holidays are upon us. Those delightful 10 weeks of anxiety about your weight that can overshadow the joys of the season – but this year is different.
For week 2 of the Maintain, Don’t Gain Holiday Challenge I’ve come up with a workout – using minimal equipment and space – that’ll soon be your fitness bestie.
Here’s how it works:
- After you’ve warmed-up, do each move shown below for 30 seconds followed by 30 seconds of rest.
- Once you’ve completed all 6 moves, rest for 60 seconds.
- Then, repeat the entire circuit 2 more times for a spectacular total body workout that’ll help you keep your shape straight through to 2016.
This is the workout that will help you keep your weight in a holding pattern while you fully enjoy the holidays.
Ready? Let’s do this!
Oh but before you start, here are all the other parts of the MDG Challenge that will have you thanking us for a New Year without weight gain anxiety.
Side Lunge with Front Raise
This fabulous compound move will keep your thighs looking lean, pants fitting well and give you a rocking set of shoulders to showcase of at those holiday parties. You’re welcome!
An oldie but a goodie to keep that muffin top at bay by for burning off holiday sweets.
Alternating Bent Over Rows
An excellent move for prepping the lats and arms to carry all those heavy shopping bags of presents (no judgment) and dragging out all those holiday decorations.
This one is fantastic for busting the idea that a moment on your lips is a lifetime on your hips – an awesome lower body fat-blaster.
Straight Leg Sit-Ups
Keep your core flat and toned with this weighted variation on a classic move.
Waist management at its finest – torch tons of calories and sculpt your obliques with this awesome multi-tasker.
FORM NOTE FOR ALL EXERCISES: Don’t let your back arch or swing back and forth through the movements. Also, be sure on the alternating-side moves to not allow any rotation through your core. Unless you’re doing Ben Allen’s Twist and Shout Workout, resist the twist!
Next week –- and all the way into the New Year — we’re keeping this thing rolling with more great strategies for maintaining your weight through the holidays.
